I am a South African artist with a passion for art. Operating from a home studio in Cape Town’s northern suburbs, I paint on commission for corporate and retail clients. I also offer an interior décor service where I can create the look and feel you want in your home, office or holiday home.

Tanja’s compositions and use of color reflect her background in graphics. She has a passion for large scale, bold, textured images that draw the different elements together in a room. Most of her art works are a feature, yet never overpower a client’s space.

To help clients decide want they want, Tanja photographs the space in which the art work is to be displayed. She then offers different digital options of colour and dimension to ensure the client is happy before she produces an original, custom-made art work.

Commissioned works
Tanja’s first experience of selling large amounts of art to one buyer occurred two months after holding her first art exhibition. The first piece was commissioned for a bachelor house in Hout Bay, but the client thereafter purchased 20 art works from her. She has also provided 80 art works to Harbor House in Hermanus for the hotel and apartments and 60 artworks to the Urban Hip Hotel Group for the Somerset Links Golf Estate in 2007. She has also supplied her art works to guest houses, numerous offices and private residences.

Her latest commission was for TNS Research in Nairobi, Kenya. Tanja painted 90 art works in South Africa, removed them from their frames, flew them to Kenya, then reframed and installed them.

Tanja’s art works have also been showcased in Coricraft, a leading home décor shop in South Africa.

Tanja thrives on transforming interiors into aesthetically pleasing spaces that match her clients’ style. From planning the layout and presenting mood boards to project managing the renovations and installing the decor, Tanja sees a project through from concept to completion.

In a recent commissioned project, Tanja transformed a beach cottage in the charming coastal village of Strandfontein from drab to fab. This project involved replacing some of the interior walls to improve the flow of the home and changing the decor. The result was a beautiful, yet relaxed and personal space that incorporated some of the outdoor elements to make it the perfect holiday home. Read what the client said about the project

“In 2014 we decided to embark on a renovation project of our beach house in the Western Cape. We heard about Tanja’s work from a previous customer and contacted her. The project had difficulties as the location was remote, and we live in Namibia, which made any liaison with a project manager very difficult. Tanja was fantastic, she listened and studied our brief in detail and when she made her first proposal and “mood boards” it was exactly what we wanted. Still, we were worried to proceed as neither Tanja, nor ourselves would be at the project site all the time.

There was no need to be worried – Tanja made the project her own and even lived in the house while it was being renovated to supervise the work. She provided us with regular photo updates, and gave feedback on such a regular basis that we felt completely in charge of our project. There were no unpleasant surprises and the project was completed within our budget.

When we arrived in December to see our newly renovated beach house, it was the most fantastic experience ever. Tanja had arranged for the house to be opened, showing off our lovely new living area and kitchen, and it was as if we were walking into a five-star hotel. The renovated beach house, with all the lovely accessories she chose, was far above our expectations and we continue to enjoy our house every holiday season.”

Tanja has extensively freelanced for many years in home wear design, fashion and textile design and trend forecasting. She has also designed numerous corporate identities. Her current and past corporate clients in these markets include Boardmans, Woolworths, Game, Mr Price, Sassi and Ginger & Lime.

Tanja’s life has always revolved around art in some or another way. After studying Textile Design at Cape Technikon, she spent a year in London, creating designs for ties. Her commercial art career was launched when she returned to South Africa in 1998 and  worked as a graphic designer in the clothing and homeware industries until 2005.

The switch from graphic to abstract art

Until then, Tanja had always painted landscapes and abstracts as a side line. However, when she sold her ‘Abstract Beginnings’ range, she decided to test the market with an exhibition in 2005 – and enjoyed a sell-out evening. She has since held more than 10 exhibitions, her favourite being at the Overture Restaurant on the Hidden Valley Wine Estate in May 2010.

“Tanja de Beer’s artworks are both a joy to collect and an inspiration.
They offer a breath of fresh air to many in terms of their décor, design, fashion and, of course, art!” – Tylo Jacobs

“Tanja de Beer brings a unique combination of passion, knowledge, talent, care and attention to detail to her profession, whether as artist or interior designer. What stands out for me most about Tanja is her interest in the people with whom she works. Tanja ends up knowing you even better than you know yourself! This in-depth understanding of their needs and preferences allows Tanja to provide her clients with design solutions which are exactly what they need and with works of art they can truly cherish.” ~ Sean de Bruin, SDB Attorneys
